TOFs Membership

TOFs formally known as The Over Fifty Fives (TOFFs) is a bespoke programme for the community in Eastbourne and surrounding areas. To be eligible you now need to be aged 60 or older. As of March 2021 TOFs will be a stand alone category and not part of our more generic associate category. Members have access to an exclusive programme of classes and swim sessions. As a TOFs member you can also attend our standard class and open swim programme on a pay as you go basis.
For those that were members at the end of 2020 we are phasing in the age rise so this year new members will need to be over fifty six to join and then fifty seven in 2022 and so on until it gets to 60. This will shrink the eligible population to keep numbers reasonable and mean the content of our programmes can reflect a smaller demographic to help us deliver more suitable content.

The following is available to TOF members:

25m swimming pool with 3m deep end. See the TOF's timetable for exclusive times. Visit the timetable section for the most up to date programme.

90 Station Fitness suite with a designated cardiovascular area packed with bikes, treadmills, and rowers, cross-trainers and steppers. Free weights range from 2-40kg.

Large 6 court sports hall marked for badminton, basketball and volleyball.

30 Seat Meeting room with direct access to the Sports Hall and extensive foyer. Full multi-media integration.

Artificial outdoor pitch. Marked for Football, Hockey and Lacrosse.

Two gymnasiums available for exercise classes, badminton, football, basketball, gymnastics, children’s parties.
- Class studios including a dedicated spin studio.

Range of exercise classes and open pay and play sport sessions available.

A fantastic restaurant on site offering teas, coffees and meals.

We offer Health Assessments measuring your Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Body Composition.

Scholarships

The sports scholarship scheme is designed to help students develop their full sporting potential by giving the necessary flexibility and support required to train and compete at the highest level whilst achieving an academic qualification.
Recent Sports Scholars
Scholarships and the value awarded to individuals depend on the athlete’s current competition level and the number and quality of overall applications that year. Minimum requirements for applying are to be competing at regional level competition. If you would like more information about our scholarships and applying then contact us. To be eligible for a scholarship you must be a student or have an unconditional or conditional offer from the University of Brighton. Scholarships are open to a range of widely recognised sports and include disability sports.

Sport Scholarship Students will receive access to the following:
- Free access to the Sport Brighton gyms
- Financial support (up to £1000 for that year)
- Performance T-shirt
- Access to workshops (nutrition, fitness training, technique analysis and sports psychology)
- Strength and Conditioning support
- Physical Performance testing
- Reduced rate access to physiotherapy support
- Reduced rate access to sport massage treatments
- A mentor to help with lifestyle management
- Access to University of Brighton sports coaches (where available)
- Links to external clubs through our extensive partnership network

Our overall scholarship programme is supported by donations to university. Details of this can be found here. We also award a scholarship(s) for field hockey each year. The Davidson-O’Connor Sport Scholarship is a one-year award for a female or female identifying, student studying at the University of Brighton who is participating in field hockey at an elite or talent level. The award is made possible by donor and alumnae, Dr Judith Davidson, in memory of fellow alumnae Maureen O’Connor who played field hockey for England.
How to apply
Applications are open between January and July for the following academic year. Complete our online application. Use this form if you fulfil the criteria for either our general scholarships or the Davidson-O'Connor Sports Scholarship. If you are looking at this after July please register your interest, there may be some support we can provide.

Gym Membership
Want to try before you buy? We are offering all University of Brighton staff with a valid staff UniCard free Sport Brighton membership for a day. This offer is available to all staff that have not used a Sport Brighton gym before. To get your free Day Pass This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.with your name and internal postal address. A day pass also gives you access to classes on the day you activate your Day Pass for no cost. If you have any questions then feel free to ask a member of our team and they will be happy to help you. If you have used us before but just want to give it another go then 24 hour passes are available to purchase for a small fee.
If you enjoyed using our facilities and services after your free session then you can either take out a monthly membership. See our memberships page for price details for staff. If you wanted more help reaching your personal fitness goals then we have a number of personal trainers that can help you. Speak to reception for prices and details. Sport Brighton Gym Membership includes:
- Access to our gyms
- Access to all our classes for no additional cost
- Priority class booking (7 days rather than 5 days for non-members)
- Priority and discounted casual hire of our sports courts, pitches or baskets
Active Travel
Those cycling or running in to work are also welcome to use the Sports Centre's shower facilities. Further details of cycle facilities at the campuses can be found here. Bike racks are near to all Sports Centre locations.
Classes
Our class programme offers a range of instructor led sessions at all our centres. You do not need to be a member to take part and many classes are 45 minutes in duration so they can fit nicely with your working day. All centres offer changing and shower facilities too. To book a class simply visit our booking page. If you are a non-member you can book up to 5 days in advance, members can book 7 days in advance. Nearly all classes are suitable for those completely new to exercise. Just introduce yourself to the instructor if its your first class and they will ensure they guide you through. Not sure what a class is or what class is for you then have a chat with one of our staff members in person, email or phone.
Drop in activities from £2
Our Panthers Play programme is also open to staff as well as students. Panthers Play sessions offer drop in sports sessions, this ranges from racquet sports to team sports. We also run one off events throughout the year. Details of the current timetables can be found here during term time. Why not bring a colleague to try something new or just venture on your own and join in. Sessions can also be viewed via our App.
Staff only events
We are also looking to arrange staff sports events during the year. To help us do this we would like a key contact in each department to act as a departmental sports representative. We can then tell you via this person of any potential activities we have planned.
