RUGBY LEAGUE

Rugby League is one of the youngest and fastest growing sports teams at the University of Brighton. Started in 2013 the club has grown significantly, and has aspirations to build up to another team. Despite its reputation for being a “northern sport”, the club thrives in Brighton. The club has an inclusive ethos involving everyone of all abilities and backgrounds, shapes and sizes with no initiations or forced activities. The club has been fortunate enough to attract a good calibre of coaches and is now coached by a Sussex Merlins coach and have the league title in their sights.

TRAINING AND MATCH DAYS

The club are based at the Falmer Camous with training every Monday on the 3G all weather pitch. Match days are on Wednesdays. The club are looking to attract players from all campuses, those travelling from Eastbourne can benefit from the Sport Brighton inter site travel refund scheme. As well as league fixtures there is a cup competition as well as opportunities to get involved with local clubs both in rugby league and union as well as university regional trials. Working alongside O2 touch and Parklife the club help to offer university and community based touch rugby tournaments every Thursday.

POST SEASON

Once the league season finishes the rugby doesn’t stop, O2 touch rugby carries on through untill the end of term with tournaments throughout the academic year and Sussex Merlins provide touch rugby with Hove Rugby Club. The club have also attended tours in the summer usually booked for April each year as well as both rugby 7’s and 9’s tournaments.

SOCIALS

The club's socials are a good opportunity to meet new people and having a great time. Socials are held every Wednesday after game days. The club also gathers regularly in the rugby league season to watch professional fixtures together.
