Facilities at Brighton

To book a facility on a casual basis as a student, staff or member please contact your nearest reception. You can book facilities seven days in advance if your are a member or 48 hours if you are not. Please note that we offer a special off peak rate for casual hire facility bookings. Facility hire off-peak times are 07.30-17:00. If you would like to make a contract booking (regular bookings, bookings by external organisations or bookings further in the future) then complete our booking form. You can call reception to check availability prior to making your enquiry or booking request. If you are looking for a venue for your childrens' parties then please see the end of this section for details.

Monday to Friday 7.30am to 10pm

Saturday and Sunday 8.30am to 5pm

Bank Holidays are the same as Sunday opening hours. We close between Christmas and New Year.

 

About Falmer

Situated on the edge of Brighton amongst the green fields and hills of the South Downs, the Falmer campus houses a range of outdoor sports pitches and an indoor facility.

The university have invested £9m on developing sports facilities at the Falmer campus. In October 2010 the university opened its new Sports Centre. The Centre has a 6 court sports hall as well as a fitness gym and 2 activity studios.

The facilities are within a 5 minute walk of the main halls of residence and Falmer train station. With an inter site/city bus service running frequently.

The university’s sports facilities are available for hire by student, staff , external groups and the general public regardless of membership. A variety of fitness membership options for staff and students are available. All memberships are valid across all university sports facilities.

Falmer's facilities include:

      • Sports hall marked with 1 netball court, 2 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts (and whole hall show court), 6 badminton courts, cricket nets
      • 2 activity studios (1 matted for martial arts)
      • Large fitness suite
      • Seminar room
      • Five outdoor grass football pitches
      • One outdoor grass rugby pitch
      • Floodlit synthetic turf full size pitch (Third Generation FIFA 2 Star) marked for football, 3 x 7-a-side pitches and american football.
      • Floodlit 8 court tarmacadam non-slip netball and tennis courts
      • Artificial outdoor cricket wicket
      • Outdoor changing (x8) and seminar rooms (x4) within the Sports Pavilion Building

 

 

 

 Virgin Active

 

Virgin Actiue is situated on the Falmer campus. This is externally run to the university but they do offer a swim deal for students and staff at the university. A card purchased from Sport Brighton can be used to access pay as you go swim sessions on certain days and times.  For details of the University of Brighton exclusive swim offer please see our latest Brighton Swim Timetable.

Monday to Friday 7.30am to 9pm.

Saturdays 11am-3pm (term time only)

Closed on Sundays.

We are closed on Bank Holidays at Cockcroft.

Tuesday/ Thursday: 7.30am to 2pm

Based in the Cockcroft Sports Centre servicing the Moulescoomb campus just 2 miles from the City centre, within easy reach of Moulsecoomb train station and access to over 300 off street parking spaces:

The university’s sports facilities are available for hire by student, staff , external groups and the general public regardless of membership.       • Sports hall
        The wooden sprung-floored hall houses one basketball court or two badminton courts. The hall can also accommodate a variety of other activities including various exercise classes and local clubs.
      • Fitness suite
        The popular 35 station fitness suite is constantly updated to bring our members the most up-to-date equipment. The ground floor houses a multitude of resistance machines and free weights with the first floor dedicated to cardiovascular area with treadmills, bikes, steppers, cross-trainers and rowers.
      • Climbing wall
        The indoor traverse in the gymnasium is a great training facility spanning the 15m x 6m. At present use is restricted to the university Climbing Club (who welcome new members) and to experienced climbers.

Varley Halls of Residence

We have a small fitness facility at Varley Halls which is available to students living within the student accomodation there. To access this facilitiy residents should register and activate their membership at either Falmer or Cockcroft Sports Centres.
