Panther's Polo Team Ride to Silverware

The University of Brighton is proud to announce that our intermediate Polo team have just be crowned the 2018 SUPA Winter National Champions.

The University of Brighton Polo Team are a proud exception to their respective sport; providing fun, affordable and accessbile Polo to Brighton students.

Heading into the competition the team felt they were very much underdogs. It was just their second time going to the National Arena Championships and they were riding new horses unlike the majority of the competition who train and compete with the same. Despite the disadvantages the whole team rallied and put out some great performances; The beginner's gaining some valuable competition experience, the median team placing 2nd and 1st place for the lower intermediate team in their respective divisions!

A great event for the University of Brighton Polo team to be involved in who reflected on their time at the competition:

The President, Luke Sandys-Renton, had a few comments on the Median team’s performance.

“We had a hugely successful time at Nationals with two of our three teams bringing back silverware in their divisions. Our Median team had an extremely tough final match against Birmingham, but played very well and were excellent sportswomen both on and off the pitch, ultimately scooping second place in their division.”

Further comments came from their intermediate team’s victory;

“Our Lower Intermediate team however played a blinder in their final match against Bristol UWE and stormed through in a fast match to a 3-1 victory securing the title of National Champions in their division.

Our Beginner team may have lost their first three matches but in their final match had an amazing game where they put all of the feedback and advice given to them into practise and played faultlessly and ended Nationals on a high.”

Although the team faced earlier problems with their training facility moving, having no sandschool or floodlight, their beginners grew massively in confidence over their four matches and embodied such fantastic Panthers spirit, proving that winning is not always the most important part of playing sport.”

Congratulations to the team again and we look forward to hearing more about their fantastic games and victories.
